| There is no denying that American politics has been polarized in recent decades. In this paper, we used some events happened recently in American society as the breakthrough to discuss political polarization in American. Through the study of the history of polarization, we concluded some judgment standards of polarization politics, and we accented on the characteristics, causes and effects of polarization politics. According to the paper, there is a growing bipartisan ideological differences between the political parties, and ideological overlap between the political parties has all but disappeared, and there is a widening gulf between "red states" and "blue states". The causes of these phenomena mainly includes secular realignment, partisan gerrymandering and so on. Political polarization in the United States has bring some positive influences, at the same time it also has bring negative effects, such as damage the efficiency of public services and influence social stability and unity. It’s nature and normal to have some twists in its development process. The high degree of American polarization will not exist a long time, there have ups and downs, tensions and easing, just as the development of the history of polarization. |
