In the context of rural revitalization, farmers,as subjects of grassroots governance, play a crucial role in promoting grassroots democracy, improving the effectiveness of rural governance and realizing good rural governance. It is of practical significance to enhance farmers’ willingness to participate politically and make them actively participate in rural governance. The Central Government’s Central Document No.1 issued for many years in a row mentions the need to ensure the main position of farmers under the rural revitalization strategy, respect farmers’ wishes and care for their lives. With the development and progress of society, the economic level is increasing, the gap between the rich and the poor in society is gradually widening, the resulting social problems are also rising, and the credibility of the government is facing greater challenges. The grassroots government, especially the township government, plays an important role in the political and economic life of rural areas, and the intensity of farmers’ willingness to participate in politics is closely related to the effectiveness of the township government’s work.In such a social context, what is the extent of farmers’ perception of social justice and how does it affect their willingness to participate in politics? Clarifying this question is of great significance for the government to take measures to promote positive social development and thus enhance farmers’ willingness to participate in politics.Stimulating farmers’ willingness to participate in politics plays a key role in promoting the development of social grassroots democracy and achieving effective villagers’ autonomy.Based on the perspective of farmers’ participation, this thesis reviews the literature related to farmers’ political participation, defines the three core variables involved in the thesis:sense of social justice, trust in grassroots government(in this thesis,it specifically refers to trust in township government)and farmers’ willingness to participate in politics, and uses participatory democracy theory, social cognition theory and social justice theory as the theoretical basis to investigate what effect social justice sense has on trust in grassroots government and farmers’ willingness to participate in politics. We also use the theory of participatory democracy, social cognition theory and social equity theory as the bases to investigate what kind of influence social equity perceptions have on grassroots government trust and farmers’ willingness to participate in politics, and whether grassroots government trust has a mediating effect between social equity perceptions and farmers’ willingness to participate in politics.Based on these questions, the corresponding research hypotheses are proposed. To test the above hypotheses, this thesis takes farmers in Taiyuan City,Shanxi Province as the research object, and analyzes and tests the obtained data by using econometric software. The findings show that all three dimensions of social justice perceptions of fairness in terms of opportunity, outcome, and interaction positively and significantly influence grassroots government trust and farmers’ willingness to participate in politics. Moreover, higher levels of trust in grassroots government strengthen the influence of social justice on farmers’ willingness to participate in politics and play a part in mediating the effect. In order to improve farmers’ willingness to participate in politics, the following countermeasures are proposed:(1)enhance farmers’ education level to improve their ability to participate in politics;(2)increase farmers’ income to promote farmers’ perception of fairness in outcomes;(3)accelerate the development of urban-rural integration to improve farmers’ perception of fairness in opportunities;(4)strengthen institutional construction to broaden the channels of interaction with the government;(5)improve farmers’ democratic participation mechanism to motivate villagers to participate in self-government.
