| Grass-roots election is an important part of villagers’ self-government,but the development of village self-government is severely restricted by the current problems of insufficient participation level and low enthusiasm of participation.Since rural areas in China are typical "acquaintance society",the social trust formed by long-term communication among villagers,as an important resource contained in social relations and social structure, plays an important role in rural autonomy.Based on the existing research in social trust theory, the pattern of difference sequence theory and participate in the perspective of democratic theory, using China rural development research institute of Zhejiang university(CARD)launched the "2018 new rural community construction and management survey" data,a convenience sample of 1361 Chinese rural residents and to build a "social trust-political trust-participate in the election," the analysis framework,to explore social trust for rural residents to participate in the primary election. This paper mainly includes six parts: introduction, literature review and theoretical mechanism, data source and model construction, descriptive statistical analysis, empirical analysis of social trust on villagers’ participation in grass-roots elections, research conclusions and policy suggestions. The main research contents are as follows: First, based on the characteristics of data and the purpose of the study, the binary Logistic basic regression model and the mediating effect model were constructed;Secondly, descriptive statistical analysis is carried out on the current situation of villagers’ participation in grass-roots elections in the sample areas.Thirdly,it empirically analyzes the influence of different types of social trust on villagers’ participation in grass-roots elections.A stepwise regression mediation model was used to test whether political trust played a mediating role. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)Both special trust and general trust in social trust have a significant driving effect on villagers’ participation in grass-roots elections.(2)Political trust only played a partial intermediary role in the general trust to villagers’ participation in the grass-roots elections, and the main effect was still the general trust.(3)There are certain regional differences in the level of grassroots election participation, and the eastern region has a higher participation rate.In view of the research conclusions, this paper puts forward the following suggestions:(1)To improve the level of social trust among villagers by strengthening the construction of rural cultural auditorium, promoting the construction of social credit system platform, and carrying out moral and ethical education.(2)The level of political trust among villagers has been improved by continuously strengthening anti-corruption work, improving the mechanism of complaint reporting and reporting, and comprehensively promoting the publicity of village affairs.(3)Pay attention to regional differences, implement the spirit of the document according to local conditions, and improve the villagers’ participation level in rural autonomy. |
