The Li ethnic group in Hainan is one of the southernmost ethnic minorities in China.Due to the uniqueness of its living area,it has formed a living custom different from other ethnic minorities and has distinct ethnic characteristics.With the rapid development of social economy,more and more Li adolescents are separated from the familiar maternal cultural environment and enter the mainstream culture with differences in language,culture,religion and customs,which lead to problems in cultural adaptation and ethnic interaction attitude.Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical significance for the construction of stable and harmonious ethnic relations in China to explore the psychological and social factors that affect the ethnic communication attitude of Li teenagers.The theory of ethnic identity development holds that safe and mature ethnic identity can promote the ethnic interaction attitude(Phinney et al.,2007).Although domestic studies have shown that Han college students have a high level of Han identity,it can directly promote the attitude of Han college students.(Chen Wanyi et al.,2022),but it is not perfect to explore the strategies and mechanisms of promoting ethnic interaction attitude s from the perspective of Li adolescents ’ethnic identity.The study introduces two variables of intergroup contact and acculturation strategy,and constructs a mediation model to explore whether Li adolescents ’ ethnic identity can promote their ethnic communication attitude through intergroup contact and acculturation strategy,and further enrich the empirical evidence of ethnic identity development theory.In this study,1657 Li adolescents in Hainan Province were selected to explore the current situation and relationship of ethnic identity,intergroup contact,acculturation strategies and ethnic interaction attitude.The results are as follows :(1)Li adolescents have a higher level of ethnic identity,and the Chinese national identity is higher than the ethnic identity.The level of female ethnic identity is higher.The level of ethnic identity of senior 3 students is significantly higher than that of senior 1students.The level of ethnic identity of students living in urban areas is significantly higher than that of students living in rural areas.The level of ethnic identity of students whose parents are both Li ethnic group is significantly lower than that of students whose parents are only Li ethnic group.(2)The degree of intergroup contact of Li adolescents is high,and the level of contact quality is higher than that of contact quantity.There is no significant difference in gender.The degree of intergroup contact of senior 3 students is significantly higher than that of junior 1and junior 2 students.The degree of intergroup contact of students living in urban areas is significantly higher than that of students living in rural areas.The degree of intergroup contact of students whose parents are both Li ethnic group is significantly lower than that of students whose parents are only Li ethnic group.(3)Li adolescents are more likely to adopt integration strategy,followed by assimilation strategy,and finally isolation strategy.The assimilation and integration strategies adopted by males are significantly higher than those of females,while the isolation strategies adopted by males are significantly lower than those of females.The assimilation strategy adopted by senior 3 students is significantly lower than that of senior 1 students.The isolation strategy adopted by junior1 students is significantly higher than that of junior 2 and junior 3 students,and that of senior 1 students is significantly higher than that of senior 2 and senior 3 students.Students in grade 3 of senior high school adopt integration strategies significantly higher than those in grade 1and 2 of junior high school,and grade 1 of senior high school.The isolation strategy adopted by students living in urban areas is significantly lower than that of students living in rural areas.Students whose parents are both Li ethnic group take integration strategy significantly lower than students whose parents are only Li ethnic group,and take isolation strategy significantly higher than students whose parents are only Li ethnic group.(4)Li adolescents have positive ethnic interaction attitude,and there is no significant difference in gender.The ethnic interaction attitude of senior 3 and senior 2 students is more positive than that of senior 1,junior 2 and junior 1 students,and the ethnic interaction attitude of junior 3 students is more positive than that of junior 1 students.Students living in urban areas have more positive ethnic interaction attitude than students living in rural areas.The students whose parents are both Li ethnic group have more positive ethnic interaction attitude than the students whose parents are only Li ethnic group.(5)There are significant correlations between ethnic identity and ethnic interaction attitude,ethnic identity and intergroup contact,intergroup contact and acculturation strategies,intergroup contact and ethnic interaction attitude,acculturation strategies and ethnic interaction attitude of Li adolescents.(6)Intergroup contact of Li adolescents plays a partial mediating role in ethnic identity and ethnic interaction attitude.(7)The Acculturation strategies of Li adolescents have no significant mediating Influences on ethnic identity and ethnic interaction attitude.(8)Intergroup contact and acculturation strategies of Li adolescents play a chain mediating role between ethnic identity and ethnic interaction attitude.Therefore,the conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)The ethnic identity of Li adolescents is closely related to their ethnic communication attitude.With the increase of contact and communication with Han people,the ethnic identity becomes more positive.(2)By creating good opportunities for intergroup contact,Li adolescents adopt positive acculturation strategies and finally promote positive communication attitudes. |
