The research investigates the impact of Internet use on the public’s perceived social governance performance with the application of "Comprehensive Survey of China’s Social Conditions" in 2017.Firstly,descriptive analysis is adopted to explore the overall situation of the public’s Internet use and perceived social governance performance in our country. In this section, the research focuses on the public’s experience and evaluation of the governance situation in various fields to investigate the shortcomings of social governance in China;Secondly, used factor analysis method to extract representative variables of the public’s perceived social governance performance, which will set the basis for subsequent regression analysis. At the same time, used factor comprehensive score to reflect the overall development level of social governance in our country, thus to comprehend the gaps between our social governance level and "good governance".Thirdly, multiple linear regression analysis is used to investigate the effects of browsing Internet use and expressive Internet use on the public’s perceived social governance performance. Finally, subsample regression is used to investigate the group differences in the impact of Internet use on the perceived social governance performance. The dissertation contains 4 following findings: Firstly, from the perception of the public’s social governance performance,Chinese social governance overall is at the medium level, which contributes to a great distance between "good governance";Specifically, the governance level of the country is obviously low in such areas as family economy, urban and rural rights and treatment equity, public service awareness, food safety and social participation.Secondly, browsing Internet use has a significant negative impact on the public’s perceived social governance performance;Expressive Internet use has no significant negative impact on the public’s perceived social governance performance.Thirdly, when other factors are controlled, the degree of negative impact of browsing Internet use on the perceived social governance performance of different groups with different socioeconomic status is different, and the middle group is the most negatively affected, and the overall result shows an "inverted U-shaped" relationship; When other factors are controlled, expressive Internet use also has a different degree of negative impact on the perceived social governance performance of groups with different socioeconomic status, among which, the upper group suffered the most negative impact.Fourth, when other factors are controlled, the negative influence degree of browsing Internet use on the perceived social governance performance of groups with different government trust levels is different.Specifically, browsing Internet use has a significant negative impact on the perceived social governance performance of groups with high level of government trust, but has no significant impact on the perceived social governance performance of groups with low level of government trust. However, expressive Internet use has no difference in the degree of negative influence on the perceived social governance performance of groups with different levels of government trust. The innovations of this dissertation is twofold: First,on the basis of the theoretical presets of performance perception, the use of Internet information function is regarded as the premise of the public’s social governance performance, and the influence of browsing Internet use and expressive Internet use on the public’s social governance performance is investigated in more specific, therefore, the relevant research on the perceived social governance performance is enriched to a certain extent.Second, the "agenda setting theory" is introduced, and on the basis of discussing the positive and negative directions of Internet use effects, the differences between different characteristic groups in Internet use effects are deeply investigated, therefore,to a certain extent,it makes up for the academic circle’s single cognition of the effect of Internet use.
