With the further deepening of population aging in China, the issue of population aging is becoming increasingly prominent. In order to alleviate the problem of population aging,China has proposed an active aging strategy. With the trend of gradually delaying retirement age becoming an imperative in the reform of the pension insurance system, the employment problem of young and elderly people is increasingly being paid attention to.The gradual deepening of population aging has brought pressure and challenges to China’s economic development. How to respond to the challenges of population aging and effectively solve the employment problem of young elderly people has significant practical significance for achieving high-quality employment for young elderly people and fully utilizing their human resources.Based on this, this paper takes active aging as the research perspective, human capital theory,Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, and life cycle hypothesis theory as the theoretical basis of the study. While using literature research methods to collate the literature, statistical analysis and empirical analysis methods are used to study data. This article introduces the current employment situation of young and elderly people in China by searching and sorting out references, organizing data, and other relevant materials. The 2021 China Social Status Survey(CSS)was selected for data screening and processing, and Stata statistical software was used for cross contingency table analysis.Logistic regression model was used to analyze the impact of 14 influencing factors on the employment of the young elderly at three levels of individuals, families and society, and Probit regression model was used for robustness test, based on which, the promotion policy of the young elderly employment was studied. The results show that the age, gender, residence, education level, total personal income, family members’ working conditions, socioeconomic status, and overall social equity of the young elderly have a significant impact on their employment. At the individual level, the higher the age,the lower the likelihood of employment.Women are less likely to be employed than men.The likelihood of employment among young and elderly people living in rural areas is higher than that of urban residents.Young and elderly people with illiterate education have a high willingness to seek employment.Personal total income has a positive impact on the employment of young and elderly people. At the family level, young and elderly people with family members working have a higher probability of employment compared to young and elderly people without family members working. At the social level,self-evaluation of socioeconomic status and overall social equity have a positive impact on the employment of young elderly people.Based on the empirical analysis results, this article proposes specific policy recommendations to promote the employment of young and elderly people in China.Firstly, the government should increase policy support and improve relevant laws, establish and improve employment mechanisms for young and elderly people.Secondly, society should improve the employment environment for young and elderly people.Enterprises should have the courage to hire young and elderly people, and non-governmental organizations should play their social support role to increase the social participation rate of young and elderly people.Thirdly, individuals should improve their comprehensive literacy abilities.Young and elderly people should enhance their awareness of self-learning and change their mindset, establish a lifelong learning concept, and actively participate in social construction.
