Research On The Socialist Debate During The May 4th Period

After the Opium War,China descended to the semi-colonial and semi-feudal society gradually.All classes in China kept learning from western countries constantly in order to find a way out for China.Western ideas in large quantities,including Marxism and Guild Socialism,were also introduced to China.As the various currents of thought spread in China,fierce controversies arose between factions of different beliefs during the May 4th Period.Three of the more influential debates took place,the Problem and Doctrine Debate,the Socialist Debate(between Guild Socialism and Marxism),and the Marxism and Anarchism Debate.The most representative of these debates,the Socialist Debate during the May 4th Period,is selected for this paper.The Socialist Debate during the May 4th Period was a fierce ideological confrontation between Marxists and Guild Socialists about whether China could cross the Capitalist Stage and enter the Socialist Stage directly,which could be said to be an important landmark in the history of Chinese ideology.Based on the domestic and international situation at that time,starting with the spread of Guild Socialism in China,this paper sorts out the process of the debate,summarizes the main issues debated by both sides of the debate,evaluates the main viewpoints of both sides,and excavates its historical influence and epochal value.The Socialist Debate during the May 4th Period led to the widespread dissemination of Scientific Socialism in China,which promoted the establishment and rooting of Scientific Socialism in China.We explain clearly why Scientific Socialism can take root and develop continuously in China,taking history as a mirror,which provides important enlightenment for distinguishing various erroneous social trends of thought in the new era and grasping the guiding position of Marxist Ideology firmly.The current struggle in the ideological field in China is very acute and complex,and we must attach great importance to it.Studying the Socialist Debate during the May 4th Period is of great significance for us to oppose various erroneous trends of thought and strengthen our confidence in the Socialist Path with Chinese Characteristics.We should draw historical wisdom from it,view problems with the standpoint,viewpoint and method of Marxism,apply the latest achievements of Sinicization of Marxism to solve problems,and adhere to the dominant position of Marxism in the field of ideology.We must take a clear-cut stand against various erroneous trends of thought,strengthen our Road Confidence,and follow the Socialist Path with Chinese Characteristics.
