The outbreak of the COVID-19 as a sudden global public health event has increased more uncertainties in China-US relations. The media has played an important role in shaping China-US relations and communicating the importance of the agenda to the public. This study mainly focuses on the following issues:1 Regarding the background of COVID-19,what kind of agenda network has China’s media coverage presented?2.What is the public agenda network in China during the outbreak of COVID-19?3.For China-US relations,is there a significant correlation and causality between Chinese media coverage and the public agenda network?4.Is the agenda setting effect of the agenda network with negative emotional attributes stronger than that with positive emotional attributes? After using the LDA topic clustering model to process the text data of media reports, and through the social network analysis of the public agenda data collected by the questionnaire, this thesis conveys 4 key conclusions:1 In the context of China-US relations under the background of COVID-19,whether the official media agenda or the public agenda of the public, the topics covered can basically be summed up in three major categories:politics, economy and public health.2.the agenda network has a more obvious emotional value polarization in the agenda of the China-US relationship.Media reports are mainly based on behavioral narrative strategies, with a tendency of"anti stigmatization";The public agenda is more emotional and dominated by epidemic issues.3.The agenda networks of the media and the public possess their own focus.Among them, the coverage agenda density of the media is more uniform, while the public’s attention to different topics is more obvious.4.The results of QAP analysis show that the agenda network reported by the media has a significant positive correlation with the public explicit agenda network(r=.466,P<.05)and the public implicit agenda network(r=.489,P<.05);MR-QAP results showed that the agenda network reported by the media showed positive causality with the public explicit agenda network(r~2=.217,P<.05)and the public implicit agenda network(r ~2=.239,P<.05);There is a significant positive correlation between the agenda network of emotional(positive)attribute of media reports and the agenda network of public(positive)emotion(r=.324,P<.05);The agenda network of emotional(negative)attribute of media report shows a positive and significant correlation with the agenda network of public(negative)emotion(r=.489,P<.05),and the agenda network of emotional(negative)attribute of media report is relatively significant than that of emotional(positive)attribute of media report. The imitation feedback mechanism of negative emotion between agendas makes the negative resonance of emotion more significant.4.In the context of COVID-19,normal economic relations are given political functions. The decline of scientific logic makes public health a way for political parties to play the game of interests."Pan politicization"has become the"consensus"of bilateral relations, and ideological factors have penetrated into other fields of social life. |
