Study On The Influence Of Intergenerational Support On Quality Of Life Of The Elderly

The continuously improving of economic and social development and the increasingly serious problem of aging population have put forward higher requirements for the construction of China’s old-age security system.Since that,old-age security must not only be committed to meeting the basic survival needs of the elderly,but also need to pay attention to the higher level needs of the elderly.Among the influencing factors of the quality of life of the elderly,the intergenerational support is a distinctive feature of China’s society,which is different from that of the West.It is also a prominent advantage of China’s old-age security system,and it has an irreplaceable important position in the quality of life of the elderly.Obviously,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to study how and at what level intergenerational support affects the quality of life of the elderly.Based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory,this paper defines the objective quality of life of the elderly as the satisfaction of the material and spiritual needs of all levels,and then builds a multi-level system of quality of life of the elderly.On this basis,this paper takes advantage of the empirical analysis of Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey in 2014,using statistical analysis,multiple linear regression,binary logistic regression and other research methods,conducted a systematic analysis of the influence of intergenerational support on the quality of life of the elderly at all levels.The results of the study show that: First of all,the physical and safety needs of the elderly in China have been basically met,but the higher-level needs are poorly met.The society should pay full attention to the higher-level needs of the elderly group.Secondly,intergenerational support can not only meet the basic needs of the elderly group at the physiological and safety levels,but also help to meet the higher-level needs of the elderly group such as socialization,respect,and self-realization.The impact of intergenerational support on the quality of life of the elderly is universal and targeted.Thirdly,although social security cannot replace intergenerational support in a comprehensive manner,it can also have an important impact on the quality of life of the elderly,including higher levels.Finally,multiple subjects,including individuals,families,countries,and communities,can effectively guarantee the quality of life of the elderly.Based on theoretical analysis and empirical research results,this paper proposes the following policy recommendations on how to effectively improve the quality of life of the elderly from an overall level.First of all,social consciousness has an active role in social existence.It is necessary to establish a multi-layered concept of the quality of life for the elderly in the whole society and pay attention to the protection of the higher-level needs of the elderly.Secondly,the whole society must pay attention to the important role of intergenerational support,especially non-economic support,for the quality of life of the elderly,and guide and reinvigorate the family ’s function of providing for the elderly by enhancing and optimizing policy guidance and public opinion.Thirdly,social security can play a vital complementary role in China’s old-age security system.The government can fully play the role of social security in ensuring the quality of life of elderly people at all levels by building incentive mechanisms and optimizing public expenditures.Finally,the government should coordinate the overall situation and build and improve a diverse old-age security system.Thereby avoiding waste of resources and lack of guarantees,and effectively connecting the guarantee functions of multiple subjects to enhance their complementary role.
