Abstract/Summary:
As a shipping and maritime power,China has become the economy with the highest maritime connectivity and the largest trade in goods in the world. With the rapid development of ship ports, emissions are also increasing.Ship emissions have been scrutinized by international maritime organizations, government environmental agencies, public health advocates and non-governmental environmental organizations.Ship pollution is considered to be the third largest source of air pollution, with high sulphur content of fuel being the main cause.Sulfur limit admits no delay. The text excerpted for this translation practice is Marine Fuel Oil Advisory,a maritime text, which mainly states objective facts, with strong logic and complex sentence patterns. The most obvious is that there are many postpositive attributives. Therefore, how to accurately and effectively translate various postpositive attributives has become a difficulty in this translation practice, and it also puts forward higher requirements for translators.Postpositive attributive is a common linguistic component in English, but it rarely appears in Chinese,so formal equivalence cannot be fully realized in translation.Based on Katharina Reiss’ s text typology theory, the practice report mainly adopts the methods of preposition, division, fusion, converting components and integration to analyze and deal with the postpositive attributives in the text. While accurately conveying the meaning of the original text,it also conforms to the expression habits of Chinese, with a view to providing reference for future relevant translation and research.
