| This thesis presents an analysis of the author’s liaison interpreting performance in a quadrangle courtyard in March 2022.The author served as a liaison interpreter,providing interpretation services for clients from China and Sri Lanka.The report seeks to provide practical insights and suggestions to student liaison interpreters based on the analysis of the author’s performance.This study is anchored on the Skopos theory.In the task description,the author expounds on the preparations made for liaison interpreting practice,such as familiarizing with the vocabulary provided by the client and adapting to English with Sri Lankan accent.Additionally,the thesis examines the linguistic and non-linguistic elements that affected the interpreter’s performance in liaison interpreting.In the case study section,the author presents and examines specific cases,and makes necessary modifications of the original versions.The author also provides an in-depth discussion of these cases.In summary,liaison interpreters should prioritize understanding the needs of their clients.Liaison interpreters often work with clients who come from diverse social backgrounds,each with their own distinct goals and expectations.Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the clients’ social and cultural backgrounds greatly assists liaison interpreters in accurately interpreting their intentions.Interpreters must also enhance their listening skills for diverse English accents during the preparation stage and acquire a comprehensive understanding of the client’s religious and historical backgrounds.Additionally,the thesis suggests that student interpreters should employ various liaison interpreting strategies such as paraphrasing,omission and addition,explanation,and preservation to enhance their interpreting proficiency. |
