The Relationship Between College Students’ Parenting Style And Malevolent Creativity: The Chain Mediating Role Of Adult Attachment And Aggression

Creativity is the ability to create something new and functional.Creativity has long been regarded as a positive positive ability,but everything has two sides,creativity is no exception.Creativity is called malevolent creativity if the person who uses it has malevolent motives and produces malevolent destructive things.Parenting style is the interaction mode that individuals first come into contact with after birth,which has a profound impact on them.Positive parenting style is positively correlated with individual creativity,while negative parenting style is negatively correlated with creativity.It can be seen that parenting style is related to creativity,but the relationship between parenting style and malevolent creativity is still unclear,and its mechanism is also unclear.Therefore,this study focuses on college students to explores the relationship between parenting style and malevolent creativity,and the mechanism between them,namely the chain mediating effect of adult attachment and aggression.In study 1,questionnaires were used to investigate the relationship between parenting style and malevolent creativity,and whether adult attachment and aggression played a role.Based on a questionnaire survey of 1012 college students,the following conclusions were reached:(1)Parental style,adult attachment,aggression and malevolent creativity were correlated,in which paternal rejection,maternal rejection,paternal over protection and maternal over protection were significantly positively correlated with attachment avoidance,attachment anxiety,aggression and malevolent creativity;Both father’s emotional warmth and mother’s emotional warmth were negatively correlated with attachment avoidance,aggression and malevolent creativity,but not with attachment anxiety.Attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety were positively correlated with aggression and malevolent creativity.Aggression was positively correlated with attachment avoidance.(2)Attachment avoidance and aggression play a partial chain mesomeric effect between paternal rejection,maternal rejection,paternal over protection,maternal over protection and malevolent creativity,and a complete chain mesomeric effect between paternal emotional warmth and maternal emotional warmth and malevolent creativity;Attachment anxiety and aggression play a partial chain mesomeric effect between paternal rejection,maternal rejection,paternal over protection,maternal over protection and malevolent creativity,but have no mesomeric effect between paternal warmth and maternal warmth and malevolent creativity.In Study 2,interviews were conducted with 15 college students to explore college students’ cognition of malevolent creativity and what specific behaviors of their parents or their own reasons might affect malevolent creativity.The results showed that:(1)In aspect of family,parents’ violence,disregard for children’s needs and other negative behaviors,as well as parents’ words and deeds,are likely to increase college students’ malevolent creativity.(2)In aspect of themselves,the reasons for malevolent creativity of college students are mainly selfishness,taking the edge when things happen and making fun of others.(3)College students’ general cognition of malevolent creativity focuses on events such as pranks,campus violence and criminal behavior.
