The Relationship Between The College Students’ Parenting Style And Filial Piety:The Mediating Role Of Attachment

Filial piety is the essence of Chinese traditional culture,has spread piety faith continue to affect Chinese people’s psychology and behavior,and it has become one of the key topics localization of psychological research.This study is based on the dual filial piety theory and aims to explore the relationship among college parents’ parenting styles,parent-child attachment,and filial piety.By a convenient sampling method,students from Harbin Institute of Technology,Harbin Engineering University,and Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology were selected to receive paper-based questionnaires.The questionnaires were the “DFPS”,“S-EMBU” and “ECR-RS”.In order to examine the characteristics of parenting style,parent-child attachment,and filial piety in demographic variables,the relationship between the three is analyzed in detail.The results show that:(1)The reciprocal filial piety of college students is significantly higher than that of authoritative filial piety;parents’ parenting style is based on parents’ emotional warmth;father attachment anxiety was significantly higher than maternal attachment anxiety;father attachment anxiety and maternal attachment anxiety were significantly higher than paternal attachment avoidance and maternal attachment avoidance.(2)There are significant differences in the gender and family location of filial piety,and there is no significant difference in other demographic studies;there were significant differences in gender,grade,only-child and family location.There were significant differences in gender,specialty,only-child and family location.(3)There is a significant positive correlation between parental rejection and parental attachment anxiety;there is a significant negative correlation with mutual filial piety.There is a significant positive correlation between parents’ emotional warmth and reciprocal filial piety and authoritative filial piety.There is a significant negative correlation between parental attachment anxiety and parental attachment avoidance.There is a significant positive correlation between parents’ excessive protection and parents’ attachment anxiety,parents’ attachment avoidance and authoritative filial piety,and there is a significant negative correlation with the reciprocal filial piety.There is a significant negative correlation between parental attachment anxiety and reciprocal filial piety and authoritative filial piety.There is a significant positive correlation between parental attachment avoidance and authoritative filial piety.(4)Parental attachment anxiety plays a partly mediating role between parental refusal and reciprocal filial piety;parental attachment anxiety plays a partly intermediary role between parental emotional warmth and reciprocal filial piety;father’s attachment avoidance plays a partly intermediary role between father’s over-protection and authoritative filial piety;mother’s attachment anxiety plays a partly intermediary role between mother’s over-protection and mutual filial piety.
