The Study Of Zheng Xuan’s Rule Of Virtue Ideology In Mao Shi Jian

Zheng Xuan was a scholar who annotated many Confucian classics in the Eastern Han Dynasty.The annotations on Mao poetry from Zheng Xuan became to Mao Shi Jian.This book is his representative work of poetics.It is the product of the political context in which Confucianism becomes to the ideology of the ruling class,and it has a profound influence on the Confucian poetics tradition of later generations.The thought of “rule of virtue” is an important core of Zheng Xuan’s thoughts in the process of writing the annovation.By exploring the source and combining with the history of times,Returning to the cultural and historical context of constructing the “rule of virtue” ideology in Mao Shi Jian.Zheng Xuan was influenced by the thought of “rule of virtue” in pre-Qin Dynasty and paid attention to the political reality of times.On this basis,the thesis discusses the premise of Zheng Xuan’s interpretation of Mao poetry.Zheng Xuan brought the transformation of Confucian classics to poetics when he interpreted poetry with the rule of virtue ideology.Under his interpretation,he started the construction of a new discourse system of Confucian poetics.Therefore poetics has the significance of both political ideology and political expression tool.There is double meaning of “ontology”and “metaphysics” in Zheng Xuan’s thought of “rule of virtue” from his annotation.Then,starting from the text of Mao Shi Jian,the thesis elucidates the main contents of Zheng Xuan’s rule of virtue ideology,dividing it into the king’s virtue,courtier’s virtue and woman’s virtue.Zheng Xuan’s thought of “rule of virtue”,with the emphasis on virtue cultivation and poetry teaching,has a positive political consciousness in the interpretation of poetics.Zheng Xuan integrated the thought of “rule of virtue” into his poetics construction in a unique way.In Mao Shi Jian,he combined a variety of thinking perspectives such as “Rites and Music”,“Praising and Satirizing”,“Metaphor and Analogy ”,which made this ideology more three-dimensional and comprehensive.From the viewpoint of multiple philosophy,the philosophical meaning and the characteristic of interpretation of “rule of virtue” in his annotation are expounded.Finally,from the evaluation of some later scholars on Mao Shi Jian and some later classic version of annotation about poetics.This thesis reviews Zheng Xuan’s way of annotating poems with the thought of “rule of virtue”,and probes into the academic and practical influence of Zheng Xuan’s annotated poems with this ideology on later generations.And reflect on Zheng Xuan’s shortcomings in the expression of his ideas due to the limitations of times.The thought of “rule of virtue” in Mao Shi Jian was influenced by the “moral conception of traditonal poetics” and the poetic method of "knowing people and their times" in the pre-Qin Confucian poetics tradition.The rule of virtue ideology and interpretation method in Mao Shi Jian deeply influenced the later Confucian poetics tradition.Although it was questioned and criticized in the Song Dynasty,its academic status and ideological value are irreplaceable.
