The stone carving materials of the Northern Wei Dynasty are numerous, have various forms, and are authentic and reliable, which have high research value and provide valuable corpus for the language research. At present, the research on stone carving vocabulary is relatively weak. Many studies have been limited to summarizing and classifying word structures, semantics,or pragmatics. Moreover, the distribution of relevant research results is scattered, and there are still a large number of difficult words and allusions, which need to be further explained and sorted. On the basis of the research results of predecessors, this paper takes the 150 stone carving materials before Emperor Xuanwu of Northern Wei as the research object, adopts methods such as picture and text comparison, ranking and induction, and combines theories such as philology and lexicology to accurately record and annotate the content of stone carvings. From the three perspectives of words interpretation, comparative research with The Great Chinese Dictionary, and allusions interpretation, this paper examines and interprets difficult words and allusions that have not been explained or misinterpreted, and corrects the interpretation errors of predecessors,so as to reduce the reading and comprehension barriers of stone carving materials. At the same time, the new words and meanings that appear in the stone carving materials are analyzed and summarized, which provides reference for the formulation and improvement of The Chinese Dictionary.Structurally, this article is divided into four parts. The first chapter is "Introduction",which helps explain the relevant concepts, research reviews, research ideas and methods, research objectives and significance of this paper. The second chapter is "Interpretation of Difficult Words in Epitaph Before Emperor Xuanwu of Northern Wei",which is divided into two categories: "general words" and "allusion words",with a total of 21 words examined. The third chapter is the study of stone words before Emperor Xuanwu of Northern Wei,which provides reference value for the supplements of The Great Chinese Dictionary, and which is divided into four categories: "unreceived words","unreceived items","advance examples" and "supplementary examples",with a total of 97 words discussed and analyzed. The fourth chapter is the research on stone allusions before Emperor Xuanwu of Northern Wei,which are divided into two categories according to the source of the allusions: "Famous Sayings" and "Historical Stories",with a total of 36 allusions. Finally, there is the "Conclusion" part, which summarizes the research results and shortcomings of this paper, and collects the words discussed in the stone carving materials before Emperor Xuanwu of Northern Wei,and compiles it into a "Glossary of Stone Words Before Emperor Xuanwu of Northern Wei",which is attached at the end of the article.
