Research On Li Jieren’s Letters

Li Jieren has had many correspondence with others throughout his life,covering a wide range of content.He expresses his literary concepts and reflects his attitude towards life in plain and simple language.The letters effectively interpret his personal and literary qualities from multiple perspectives,highlighting his literary essence and life background.At the same time,as an important material for Li Jieren to express his feelings,letters can excavate Li Jieren’s creation and life style which can not be touched by literary works to a certain extent,and enrich the content of Li Jieren’s research,so his letters have certain research value.The thesis focuses on Li Jieren’s letters,combining his literary works and relevant materials,to explore Li Jieren’s literary creation ideas and practices.The core issue to be studied is what kind of literary thought and creative contradiction Li Jieren embodies in the letters,thereby restoring Li Jieren’s true creative intention.Therefore,the thesis will sort out more than 300 existing letters from Li Jieren,mainly discuss them from three aspects: first,what impact Li Jieren’s communication activities have had on his literary creation,second,what kind of literary thoughts Li Jieren has formed,and third,how Li Jieren’s literary thoughts have influenced his creative practice.Apart from the introduction and conclusion,the main content of the thesis consists of three chapters.Due to the close connection among the author’ literary communication,literary thoughts,and creative practice,there may be some overlap in the content of the three chapters,but the focus of each chapter is different.The first chapter focuses on restoring Li Jieren’s important life experiences from literary activities;the second chapter focuses on presenting he specific connotations of Li Jieren’s literary thoughts,and the third chapter focuses on the contradictions and changes encountered by Li Jieren in the actual writing process.The first chapter mainly explores the impact of important communication activities reflected in Li Jieren’s letters on his literary creation.Li Jieren has numerous communication partners in his letters,with the most influential ones being members of the Young China Society,the members of the Chengdu branch of the All-China’s Writers Association,the members of China Writers Association.The activities of the Young China Society promoted his transformation towards modern literary creation,and he gradually formed patriotic and humanitarian ideas,which influenced the spiritual quality of his literary creation.As an independent figure,Li Jieren gradually approached the Communist Party of China during the activities of the Chengdu Branch of the All-China’s Writers Association.The tilt of his political stance influenced his political choices and ideological changes in literary creation after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.In his interactions with the Writers Publishing House led by the the China Writers Association,Li Jieren was influenced by external forces and actively approached ideological writing.The second chapter mainly explores what literary ideas Li Jieren expressed in his letters.The specific discussion will be conducted from three aspects: creative motivation,plan,and concept.The answer is why Li Jieren writes,what kind of content to write,and how to write,in order to explore his literary characteristics.Starting from the content of the letter,this article mainly analyzes Li Jieren’s creative motivation for writing novels from two aspects:the survival needs under the influence of the remuneration system and the spiritual needs beyond material life,in order to restore his image as a writer who is not solely pursuing literary ideals.Next,analyze Li Jieren’s grand creative plan from two aspects: the completed The River Trilogy and the unpublished Transverse Flow,and summarize the creative positioning and main content of Li Jieren’s novels.Finally,analyze the creative concept embodied in Li Jieren’s letters,and discusses his unique creative style in combination with his literary text,specifically from the integration of traditional literature and modern literature,the use of realism and fiction,and the unity of secularization and regional characteristics.The third chapter explores how Li Jieren’s literary ideas have influenced his creative practice.This article mainly reveals Li Jieren’s true creative intentions from three aspects: the contradiction in creative mentality,the difference between letter expression and work presentation,and the constant literary pursuit.Li Jieren experienced changes in the actual writing process from aspiring to writing,pausing writing,and then returning to writing.During this process,he faced a contradictory creative mindset,which further affected the presentation of his works.There are contradictions in some of the viewpoints expressed by Li Jieren in his letters and works,specifically manifested as contradictions in objective writing,structural reference,the expression of revolutionary ideas,and the methods of shaping some historical figures.Through these contradictions,Li Jieren’s true creative intention can be restored,and his unchanging literary pursuit can be discovered,mainly manifested in two aspects: insisting on writing true history and providing warm humanistic care.
