A Lai has created a few but unique spiritual monks in his novels. They walk between the earth and heaven all the year round, shouldering the sacred mission of inheriting ancient religious culture.Religion endows them with extensive and rich cultural connotation, but also makes this group have to face unspeakable survival dilemma when modernization is swept by.It brings readers a very different and meaningful aesthetic experience and spiritual feeling. This paper chooses the images of monks in A Lai’s novels as the research object. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, this paper is divided into four chapters:The first chapter raises the question of what is unique about the writing of monk in Ah Lai’s novels. In terms of research ideas, this paper tries to put them into the writing framework ofmonk in the history of ancient and modern Chinese novels,so as to pay attention to the uniqueness of this group in Ah Lai’s works. The second chapter discusses the cultural connotation embodied by the images of monk through the close reading of the text.Generally speaking, this group image in A Lai’s novels reflects the cultural accumulation after hundreds of years of the struggle between Buddhism and Buddhism. They not only reflect the profound influence of the religious concepts of "animism" and "soul sending" of the religion,"all leaks are suffering" and "natural emptiness" of Tibetan Buddhism, but also continue the long spread of religious rituals such as "divination of bad luck" and "Simmering a horse with mulberry wind".The third chapter analyzes the narrative strategy of shaping the image ofmonk in combination with narrative space theory. In terms of specific content, the author mainly adopts the views of scholars such as Gabriel Zoron,Henry Lefebvre and Joseph Frank to analyze the spatial narrative art of the image creation of "monks and wizards" in A Lai’s novels from three aspects of topographical space, social space and text space. It also tries to summarize the role of spatial narrative in shaping characters, deepening themes and promoting plot development. The fourth chapter tries to discuss the writing value of themonk images in A Lai’s works and ponder the related problems about the construction of the cultural identity of minority writers caused by this.By writing the destiny of these characters with unique life experience and the task of cultural inheritance,A Lai not only vividly shows their rich and complex spiritual world, but also conveys his profound thinking about history and nature. In today’s globalized and multicultural landscape, ethnic minority writers who choose to write in Chinese inevitably have certain contradictions in the construction and identification of cultural identity. The experience of traveling through multiple cultures has endowed them with a mixed identity constructed by multiple cultures and always in a fluid state. How to look at the writing of cultural identity of minority writers in the context of multiculturalism, and how to look at the continuous dynamics of this mixed identity,Ah Lai’s writing may bring some experience and enlightenment to these issues.
