Study On The Image Of Monks In The Book Of Shishuoxinyu And Cultural Interpretation

There are a lot of Buddhist-related content in the book Shishuoxinyu,especially the content of the monks’ deeds.It almost records the eminent monks who were famous in that times.These contents can be divided into two categories,one is about the contents of monks’ participation in social activities,the other is about the evaluation of monks.This thesis study on the image of monks in the book of Shishuoxinyu.The first chapter divides the monks in Shishuoxinyu into three categories.The first one is the distinguished and admirable monks to Zhidun as the representative.The second one is the knowledgeable monks to Daoan and Huiyuan as the representative.The third one is the monks who are foreigners.Then the thesis analysises the construction of the monks’ image in Metaphysical vision.The celebrities have deep affection for discussing Metaphysics,the monks also participate in the discussion frequently,and they get the celebrities’ appreciated quickly by talking about the articles Xiaoyaoyou and Yufu which are the classic articles of Metaphysics.In addition,the monks are approaching the celebrities in aesthetic taste and hobbies.They pay more attention to appearance and also have extensive hobbies.The monks also are effected by the celebrities in the construction of ideal personality.They advocate the personality of celebrity,and pursue the spiritual freedom.Though Metaphysics is the main subject of Wei and Jin dynasty,Buddhism which is adventive can have a role to play in the mind.There are two reason.One is that the political situation and the society are chaotic and turmoil.The other is that Buddhism and Metaphysics can reach agreement in resisting Confucianism.Especially the rebellion of Buddhism to Confucianism is more exhaustive.Though Buddhism is so different of Metaphysics,their ideological theory also has something in the same or familiar under the special historical environment.As time goes,Buddhism and Metaphysics are improving constantly and the two are fusing finally.As the fusing of Buddhism and Metaphysics,the monks and the celebrities become more and more familiar,which improving the fusing.The Metaphysical celebrities both can believe in the Buddhism thought as their faith and enjoy the earthly life,so that they can settle their soul in Buddhism finally.
