A Study On Suspense Setting In Park Chan-wook’s Revenge Trilogy

The suspense setting techniques in film and television works come from literary works and also depend on the vigorous development of modern science and technology.From the past,relying on imagination,to the present,we can enjoy both audio and visual.The role of suspense has become increasingly important,and it has become a sharp tool to create a favorite film and television work.The three films,"Old Boy","Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance" and "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance",directed by the Korean director Park Chan-wook,are collectively known as "The Revenge Trilogy".They are praised for their treacherous suspense,unpredictable story trend and unique personal style.In this context,studying the suspense setting in Park Chan-wook’s works can not only acquire more flexible and diverse director skills,but also obtain different creative inspiration.The purpose of this thesis is to study and analyze the suspense setting in the film directed by Park Chan-wook through the methods of literature research,case analysis and experience summary,taking the "revenge trilogy" as an example,and discuss the suspense setting in the script creation and the suspense setting presented in the film,Try to sum up the skills and methods of director Park Chan-wook in the suspense setting process and put them into my graduation works.The first part of the article describes the research status and background of this topic,as well as the definition of suspense and other concepts,so as to make a theoretical basis for the following article.The second part,starting from the idea of script creation of the film,takes the case analysis method as the main method to increase the suspense effect in the story from the core of the story,the structure of revenge,the setting of guideposts and unreliable narrators.The third part is from the perspective of audio-visual presentation of the film,through the use of case analysis and experience summary methods to draw conclusions on the narrative structure,picture,sound and editing of the film.Finally,it analyzes the experience gained and problems encountered when using the methods learned and summarized in the previous article to create personal works.In order to enrich its own content,play the role of theory guiding practice,and increase the effect of theoretical understanding in the process of practice.
