A Report On E-C Translation Of World Oil Outlook 2045 From The Perspective Of Thematic Progression Pattern

Based on the thematic progression theory,this thesis,taking Chapter 7 of World Oil Outlook 2045 as an example,focuses on the translation strategies of theme in the energy report.Chapter 7 of World Oil Outlook 2045 discusses energy policies of major economies and the implementation of the Paris Agreement in the context of sustainable development.The sentence pattern of the source text is complex,with plenty of long sentences and cross narrative parts between the sentences.Therefore,it is necessary to reconstruct the theme in order to reproduce the strictness,objectivity and logicality.The findings of this paper are as follows: Firstly,the thematic progression pattern in the original text reflects the author’s writing ideas and communicative intention.If the thematic progression patterns in the original text form a coherent discourse and conform to the structure of "topic + comment" in Chinese,the original thematic progression should be retained.Secondly,when the topic of the original text is misplaced with the theme,reconstruction should be carried out according to the context.The reconstruction strategies are divided into the following three translation methods in this thesis:repeating the theme,splitting the theme and establishing the theme.Repeat the themes when the source text is developed around one single topic.Split the theme when the original theme is complicated or includes new information.Add new theme when the topic and theme are displaced.By analyzing the thematic progression modes of the original text and author’s intentions,the translator should flexibly choose the suitable translation strategy,rationally organize the layout structure of the translation,and avoid mistranslation.This report uses various methods to reconstruct the mismatch in translation and promote the shift from theme to Chinese topic.It not only sheds light on the research of E-C translation of energy report,but also provides reference for future translation practice of energy report.
