This thesis is a translation report, based on examples selected from an essay from a Japanese magazine Japanese Journal of Educational Research, Peace Education-Better Understanding of Peace Education, with four separate reports. Because they are academic reports featuring concise language with profound meaning, it is difficult to understand them thoroughly. Through checking part by part, I found that the four reports are lacking in coherence. Therefore, only understanding cohesive mechanism completely and grasping the meaning of the four reports can the translator finish the translation perfectly. So the author attempts to complete a coherent translation by using the thematic structure and related thematic progression theories. This thesis is divided into five parts:the first part introduces the background of the topic, research problems and main contents of the four reports; the second part summarizes the theme theory, including the thematic definition, classification and thematic progression and four patterns of thematic progression; the third part elaborates the theme theories having a great guiding significance in textual translation; the fourth one is the core part analyzing the examples and discussing the implications of theme theories on discourse coherence and the translation; the last part summarizes specific solutions to problems, availability and attainment experience.Combined with the thematic theory, analysis of the original theme, rheme and thematic progression, we can effectively enhance the understanding of the text structure, content development and discourse framework, and put forward rational adjustment of the sentence components to enhance coherence in expression.I hope this report can provide certain reference to translation learners and professionals engaged in the translation to solve such problems. |
