| Western powers have continuously invaded China since the Opium War.The patriots realized the power of advanced western weapons when the country was in danger.Therefore,in the 1860 s,the Westernization faction proposed the idea of“Chinese essence and Western utility”,calling on the ruling class to learn advanced Western technology and culture,and the Western idea of female education was also introduced into China at that time.Although Western learning led to the development of women’s studies in China,Chinese women’s studies were very different from Western women’s education.At the same time,the establishment of women’s schools by the Chinese was not a natural consequence of the development of the Chinese women’s movement,but an ideological practice initiated by China’s male elite,who were looking for a way to defend themselves against invasion and strengthen the foundations of the state,and were linked to the fate of the nation from the very beginning.Beiyang Women’s Public School,as the first government-run girls’ school in China,dealt a blow to the traditional concept “Ignorance is a virtue for women” and also brought opportunities for all women to receive education.Science education in girls’ schools enables women to acquire scientific knowledge and view the world from a scientific perspective,Since then,women’s way of living has changed and their self-consciousness has begun to awaken.Finally,women’s status has gradually improved and they are no longer attached to men.The Beiyang Women’s Public School has a typical case value because it was the earliest official women’s school in China and created a pioneer in modern women’s science education for Chinese people.By means of literature research and comparative analysis,this paper studies the curricula of Beiyang Women’s Public School,Beiyang Women’s Normal School and Zhili First Women’s Normal School,and analyzes the influence of science curriculum on women and society under the background of women’s education in modern China,as well as its enlightenment to contemporary science education.It is concluded that Beiyang Women’s Public School and its subsequent science education making the emergence of new female knowledge,shaping the new female image,and promoting the awakening of female national consciousness.It has an extraordinary significance for women and society.The establishment of girls’ school has a very important reference significance for contemporary science education,which is mainly reflected in promoting the equality of education,improving women’s social status,and promoting women’s liberation.It inspires contemporary science education to focus on cultivating scientific spirit,enhancing the role of science education,and ensuring the sustainability of women’s education.It provides a model case for the establishment of a perfect science education system and the implementation of correct science education.Under the education of modern women’s schools,women in the late Qing and early Republic of China continued to grow,gradually awakening their consciousness and pursuing liberation,ultimately achieving gradual equality in education and social progress.After the western idea of "natural human rights" was introduced into China,the call forgender equality continued for a long time.Modern Chinese women’s education not only contributed to the establishment and development of the education system in modern China,but also to the transformation of Chinese society and the development of social civilisation,while making women more self-aware and making an important contribution to the modern women’s liberation movement,thus improving the social status of women and providing a boost to the achievement of gender equality. |
