A Report On The E-c Translation Of The Open Revolution:Rewriting The Rules Of The Information Age (Chapters 10-12)

This thesis is a translation report,including an English-Chinese translation project and its report.The source text is selected from Rufus Pollock’s The Open Revolution:Rewriting the Rules of the Information Age,Chapters 10 to 12.The selected text focuses on replacing intellectual property monopolies with remuneration rights,stimulating innovation,promoting market fairness,and creating a more open world of information.The functional equivalence theory,proposed by American linguist Eugene A.Nida,is the guiding theory for this translation project.This report selects 18 cases from the selected text and analyzes them at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.At the lexical level,the part of speech of words should be handled flexibly,and the four-character phrases should be used properly.The accuracy of translation can be ensured through the methods of conversion.At the syntactic level,this report discusses the translation of long sentences,passive sentences and attributive clauses.The translation methods can be used to ensure the accuracy and coherence of the translation,such as division,amplification,restructuring and conversion of voice.At the textual level,the methods such as omitting the subject,adding the subject,and adding the conjunctions are adopted to achieve cohesion and coherence,which can achieve functional equivalence with the source text in form and content.This translation project showed that Nida’s functional equivalence theory could provide effective guidance for the translation of informative texts.During the translation process,translators must take the translation at the lexical,syntactical and textual levels into account to ensure that the translation accurately conveys the information of the source text.Additionally,it is hoped that this report can provide a reference to the translation of similar informative texts.
