A Practical Report On Clothing Translation In Funny Stories In Min Guo From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence

The period of Min Guo(1912-1949)is the critical period of Chinese clothing development.In order to make people better understand Min Guo clothing and to promote and develop the traditional clothing culture,the thesis selects the clothing part of Funny Stories in Min Guo as the original text.In the clothing part of Funny Stories in Min Guo are many characteristics from the aspect of vocabulary and syntax,such as implied meanings in words,flexible word order.Based on the language features of the text,this thesis uses Nida’s functional equivalence theory to guide this translation report.By the comparison between the original text and the translation text,the thesis sums up the translation strategies and methods of the informative text,which is helpful for the same type text translation.The translation report consists of six parts.The first part is the description of the translation task,including the background of the translation text and the research significance.The second part is the theoretical guidance of translation,discussing Nida’s functional equivalence theory and using it to guide this translating practice.The third part is the description of the translating process,which mainly includes lexical characteristics and syntactic structure in this text,pre-translation’s preparation,translation process and post-translation’s review.The fourth part is the translation difficulties,summarizing translation difficulties from the aspects of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.The fifth part is the translation methods and skills,elaborating on the translation methods and skills used in the translation process.The sixth part is the summary,talking about the translation experience and the further research in the future.
