Abstract/Summary:
During the Eastern Wei period in China,Buddhism was widely spread, and the trend of statue-making was prevalent, giving rise to numerous records of statue-making with high calligraphic value. As the Eastern Wei dynasty moved its capital to Ye City, the conflict between the Han and Hu ethnic groups intensified, and the Hu-style thinking spread, manifested in cultural "reverence for antiquity".The status of clerical script gradually rose, and the number of Wei-style inscriptions with clerical script increased. In addition, regular script developed towards a more balanced style, which was suitable for combining with clerical script, resulting in the prevalent phenomenon of the Eastern Wei mixed-style of regular and clerical script. This paper, titled "Study of Calligraphy Styles in Eastern Wei Statue-Making Records",aims to explore the classification, causes, and engraving of calligraphy styles in Eastern Wei statue-making records.Furthermore,it seeks to discuss the aesthetic value and influence of Eastern Wei calligraphy.Despite being undervalued,Eastern Wei culture was not lacking in independence, and its calligraphy presented a diverse appearance in just a short period of over ten years. Therefore, the status of Eastern Wei Statue-Making Records deserves further exploration to fill the gaps in our understanding.
