Calligraphy is a unique traditional art of China.It is the essence of Chinese culture and contains rich national ideas and aesthetic concepts.Since the Han and Tang Dynasties,calligraphy has developed from a tool into a real art after it has acquired its unique lyric purpose and literal expression,instead of the purpose of eulogization and documentary.Because of the content that can be read and appreciated,essence of beauty of calligraphy also had disputes-now that calligraphy is essentially a kind of formal beauty,why all the past dynasties calligrapher to select literary poetry as a written text,why people when evaluating a calligraphy,often referred to as " Words and calligraphy double beauty" ? The relationship between style of calligraphic and style of writing can be corresponding to the objectivity and subjectivity of beauty in western philosophy,and also to the bottom-up and top-down processing in modern empirical aesthetics.Then,how do style of calligraphic and style of text process in aesthetic experience? Is there an integration process of them in human brain?This study explores the processing of calligraphy style and the integration of calligraphy style and text style through two experiments.In Experiment 1,real calligraphy pictures were selected as experimental materials,and the implicit priming paradigm was used to explore whether there was an implicit and automatic processing of the style information of calligraphy form.A 3(primes: graph-word congruent/graphword incongruent/non-calligraphy)× 2(word category: magnificent/graceful)withinsubject design was adopted.Each trial contained one picture-word pair,and the relationship between pictures and words was divided into three primes.Forty-two college students(14 men and 28 women)were asked to judge whether a style word that appeared after a picture was classed as "magnificent" or "graceful".The ACC results showed that the main effect of the priming condition was significant,and the accuracy of the non-calligraphy condition was significantly lower than that of the other two groups.The RTs results showed that the main effect of priming condition was significant,and the interaction between priming condition and word category was significant;The simple effect test showed that whether the target stimulus was magnificent words or graceful words,there was a significant priming condition effect.The results of Experiment 1 showed that the classification of words was influenced by the priming of calligraphy style,and the observers could quickly and automatically process the basic types of calligraphy style(magnificent and graceful).In the second experiment,the poetry generated by computer font was used as the experimental material,and the event-related potential technique was used to investigate whether the integration process of calligraphy style and text content style existed in the aesthetic processing of calligraphy.Using a 3(calligraphy conditions: calligraphy-text congruent/ calligraphy-text incongruent/non-calligraphy)× 2(verse-vocabulary consistency:consistent/inconsistent)within-subject experimental design,each trial contains a pair of poem-vocabulary,the generation of the verse has 3 kinds of conditions(calligraphy),lines there are two kinds of relationship with the vocabulary(verse-vocabulary consistency).Twenty-eight college students(9 men and 19 women)took part in the experiment,which asked them to determine whether the style of the poem in the calligraphy pictures matched the stylistic words that appeared later.By subtracting the congruent trials from the incongruent trials under the three calligraphy conditions,three difference waves dominated by N400 potentials were separated.The results of the EEG data showed that the amplitude of N400 was different among the three calligraphy conditions,with marginally significance.Among them,the amplitude is the largest under the condition of “calligraphy-text congruent”.The differences of the LPC potentials in the three calligraphy conditions are marginal.The results of the EEG experiment showed that the integration of calligraphy style and text content style had an impact on the processing of text content style itself,and there was an integration process of calligraphy style and text content style in the perception of calligraphy.The whole study shows that in the process of calligraphy perception,the basic style types of calligraphy form can be quickly and implicitly processed from bottom to top.In addition,whether the visual style of calligraphy is consistent with the style of the text content or not will affect the judgment of the style of the text content itself,and there is a process of the integration of calligraphy style and literary style in the aesthetic cognitive processing of calligraphy. |
