Study On Women’s Associations In Dunhuang Of Late Tang,Five Dynasties,and Early Song

During the 9th to 11 th century,a kind of folk association was widely popular in Dunhuang area.These folk association organizations had a variety of social activities and occupied a certain position in the life of Dunhuang people.The form of folk association in Dunhuang area has various causes,and women’s association is one of them.A large number of literatures on folk associations unearthed in Turpan,including those on women’s associations,are mainly studied in this paper to analyze the background,type,operation mode and characteristics of women’s associations in Dunhuang in Late Tang,Five Dynasties,and Early Song.The main body of the thesis consists of the preface,four chapters and the conclusion.In the preface,the origin,research scope and research methods of the topic are introduced,and the previous research results on Dunhuang women’s associations in Late Tang,Five Dynasties,and Early Song are reviewed.The first chapter discusses the background of women’s association from four aspects,such as society,economy,religion and geography,and emphatically analyzes the influencing factors of the phenomenon of women’s association in medieval Dunhuang area.The second chapter studies the Dunhuang women’s associations in Late Tang,Five Dynasties,and Early Song into three types:women’s associations mainly engaged in religious activities,women’s associations of funeral mutual aid type,and women’s associations of funeral mutual aid and Buddhist activities.The third chapter is the research on the structure and function of Dunhuang women’s association in Late Tang,Five Dynasties,and Early Song.The fourth chapter is a study on the characteristics of women’s associations in Dunhuang in the Late Tang,Five Dynasties,and Early Song,which is mainly manifested in that women’s associations are voluntarily initiated with the spirit of cooperation,and the women who participate in the association have the ability to dominate property,they take the alley as the center of activities,and they maintain the operation of the society in the way of folk friendship.The conclusion discusses the role of women’s associations in Dunhuang area,expounds the help and value of women’s associations to women,analyzes the significance of women’s self-consciousness awakening in Dunhuang women’s associations in Late Tang,Five Dynasties,and Early Song,and makes a summary statement of the thesis.
