With the rise of the "spatial turn" in the field of philosophy and social sciences in the 20 th century, the academic circle began to shift its research attention to space.Space theory has become a hot topic in postmodern academics in recent years, especially the first one proposed by Edward Sawyer as a representative.Three-space theory.Sawyer is based on Henry Lefebvre’s "space ternary dialectics" and Michel Foucault’s "heterogeneous space" for the opposition between the first space(real space)and the second space(imaginary space). On the basis of theory, summarized and introduced the concept of the third space, which was expanded and extended by scholars such as Homi Baba,Bell Hucks,Edward Said, etc.,making the function of the third space more open..The third space,as a marginal and other multi-dimensional space, contains the perceivable and real first space and the conceived and unreal second space, but at the same time, the meaning and function it covers go beyond both.Film,as a sound and picture art that combines reality and imagination, carries the function of input and output of cultural values. It is consistent with the openness of interdisciplinary and cross-cultural communication in the third space, and the mixed"otherness" means " "Thirdization" is the representation of the third space.Director Ang Lee is a Chinese with a green card in the United States,a Taiwanese in China, and a foreigner in Taiwan. This "other" identity without a sense of belonging is similar to the "other" of the third space. Therefore,Ang Lee’s unique identity has a natural isomorphism with the third space theory. From the perspective of the other who has the function of deconstructing binary opposition and immutable structure in the third space, study the dismantling and re-emphasis of traditional Chinese ethics in the "Father Trilogy"("Pushing Hands","Wedding Banquet","Diet Men and Women")Found that this perspective can break the central/peripheral relationship, challenge the hegemonic culture, and then rewrite the mainstream Western cultural identity.Starting from the value of the third space that can provide new perspectives, new dimensions, and new fields for Ang Lee’s film research,a comparative study of Ang Lee’s Chinese films and foreign language films reveals that the third space in Ang Lee’s films can be used across the board. In cultural exchanges, reshape cultural identity, rectify the name of marginal culture, and break the boundary between virtual and reality.
