A Report On E-C Online Consecutive Interpreting From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

Based on the online interpreting task provided by the writer for Professor Stankomir of Opole University in Poland,under the guidance of analyzing problems of student interpreters,this report analyzes a few typical problems of student interpreters in the process of practical interpreting.The triangular model of Interpretive Theory requires interpreters to grasp the key information(comprehension),break away from the language structure of the original language(de-verbalization),and then output the target language with accurate and logical expression(re-expression).However,through the analysis of the corpus selected from this interpreting task,the author finds that there are some problems in the process of student interpreters’ interpreting,such as de-verbalization and re-expression.Specifically,interpreters tend to fall into the structural form of the original language and gradually faithful to the expression and form of the original language.In terms of re-expression,the author also has the problem of “British Chinese” expression.The result of analysis shows that a qualified interpreter should get rid of the redundant and repetitive information consciously and avoid "British Chinese" or illogical Chinese expressions.On the other hand,interpreters need to realize that the language skills of Chinese and English are equally important,and use proper words which fit into Chinese logic.What’s more,the uncertainty of COVID-19 influences the development of the whole interpreting market to a large extent.In the future,the trend of interpreting development will continue to base on online interpreting.Compared with the previous face-to-face interpreting,online interpreting has higher requirements and standards for the interpreters.In online interpreting,interpreters not only need to deal with complex text information,but also need to tackle with possible network equipment problems.By discussing the author’s interpreting deficiencies in this interpreting task and some disadvantages in online interpreting task under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,this report aims to provide ideal advice for interpreting trainees as well as enlightenment for online interpreting research in the future as a reference.
