Self-control influences the physical and mental development of adolescents(Moffit,Arseneault,&Belsky,2011).It is a necessary condition for individuals to realize socialization(Huili Li,2020).High school students are in the critical period of self-control to maturity.Therefore,how to improve the self-control of high school students is the common concern of families,schools and society.Most researchers try to promote students’ self-control from the perspective of"problem orientation".This study will try to consider the problem from the perspective of "resource orientation",and try to improve students’ self-control by raising the individual’s level of hope.To sum up,this study will verify the influence of hope on self-control.Then the study will select some high school students whose self-control is lower than the average level and try to improve their level of self-control.The intervention methods are as follows:(1)An writing expression intervention with hope as the theme;(2)The mixed intervention of hope-based writing expression and group counseling.The research is divided into two parts.In Study 1,the high school students hope scale and the middle school students self-control questionnaire were used to test high school students in Fujian Province,to find out the status of hope and self-control of 553 subjects,and to analyze the relationship between hope and self-control.In Study 2,72 students with no significant difference in the level of hope and self-control were selected to carry out an intervention study.The first group was given the intervention of writing expression on the theme of hope.The second group was given the mixed intervention of hope-based writing expression and group counseling.The control group was not given the intervention.The three groups were measured with hope scale and middle school students’self-control questionnaire before and after the intervention,the difference between the pre-test and post-test data was examined,and a typical case was analyzed.The results showed:(1)The level of high school students’ hop is above the middle level,and there is no significant difference in demographic variables.(2)The level of high school students’ self-control ability is above the middle level,and significant differences are found in different gender and the places of origin.(3)The high school students’ hope can significantly predict the level of self-control.After discussion,the conclusions are as follows:Both hope-based writing expression and hope-based mixed interventioncan can raise the level of hope and improve the self-control of high school students,the latter is better than the former.
