| The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of high school students’ shyness, to explore the correlationship among shyness, self-esteem and interpersonal relationships and to analyze the interpretation-bias characteristics of high school students, then to build a group counseling model for high school students’ shyness also based on the past experiences of shyness intervention and enrich the study on the domestic intervention of shy individual.Sub-study one tested 1493 high school students with Shyness Scale to assess the current shyness level of high school students,comparing the differences depending on varibles like grade,gender and so on.Sub-study two tested 830 students from Sub-study one with the Self-Esteem Scale and Interpersonal Integrated Diagnostic Scale,to explore the current situation of high school students’ self-esteem and interpersonal relationship and their correlation with shyness,thus provide a theoretical basis for the use of self-esteem and interpersonal communication module in the group counseling.Another part of sub-study two tested 595 students from Sub-study one with Adolescents’ Interpretation Bias Questionnaire using 2(shyness level: high / low) X2(gender: male / female) X2(situational type: social / non-social) three-factor mixed design, to explore the interpretation bias characteristics of high school students, providing a theoretical basis and counseling ideas for the use of cognitive module in the group counseling.Sub-study three designed a comprehensive group counseling program including shyness understanding, self-esteem improving, cognitive adjustment, social skills development(including heterosexual communication) and facing shyness based on the preceding two studies’ conclusions and the past experiences of shyness intervention,to examine the effectiveness of group counseling by the design of experiment group-control group and front-back test.The conclusions of the study are as follows:(1) Although the degree of current high school students’ shyness is slightly high, but shyness is not very common. No significant differences in gender,single child and non-single child dimensions. Grade level has an influence on high school students’ shyness,students’ shyness in grade 3 is higher than grade 1, the interaction between gender and grade is not obvious. Non-student cadres are shier than student leaders. Students with self-rated poor achievements are shier than students with self-rated moderate and outstanding achievements.(2)The overall self-esteem level of high school students is above normal,most students can better communicate.But there are still some students who have certain confusion in interpersonal aspects, mainly in heterosexual communication.Interpersonal problems can significantly predict high school students’ shyness, interpersonal conversation and interpersonal communication can significantly predict high school students’ self-esteem, self-esteem has a partial mediating role between interpersonal relationship and shyness.(3)High-shyness group does not exist the negative bias inclination both in social and non-social situations,and its positive interpretation scores are significantly lower than the low-shyness group.(4)Group counseling activities designed in this study can significantly reduce the level of shyness of shy high school students, students are more active to participate in activities and comumunication, their physical symptoms are improved, they can have a positive self-talk when exposed to the context with shyness and pressure. |
