Jules Bastien Lepage was a representative painter of French naturalism painting in the 19 th century.In his short life,he mainly devoted himself to the painting creation of rural working people.He used realistic painting language to show people.The natural features of the French countryside and the simple human beauty of the working people.This article mainly takes Lepage’s background and personal artistic experience as the starting point,analyzes the causes of Lepage’s naturalistic paintings,summarizes the naturalistic characteristics in his works,and guides the author to think about the painting creation of working people.Lepage’s early academic painting career gave him a solid foundation in painting.The artistic concept of the Barbizon School and the painter’s attachment to rural life greatly influenced the formation of Lepage’s artistic style.Lepage paints the most authentic rural life with an impartial perspective.The helplessness,sadness,and joy of the people in the painting all tug at the heartstrings of the viewer,making people feel empathy.Through the study of Lepage’s artistic works,the author has a deeper understanding of the painter’s artistic pursuit,and feels the strong feelings hidden under the simple appearance of the working people.The author decided to use the working people of his hometown as the theme of creation through the reference and thinking of Lepage’s art works,combined with the profound experience of rural life.In the process of painting practice,the author does not completely imitate the objective object,but expresses the inner love for the hometown and the praise for the working people through rationalized artistic processing in the picture.
