The most distinctive feature of boneless flower and bird painting, one of China’s traditional Chinese paintings,is that it does not use ink lines to outline the shape of the object, but directly depicts it in color. In the early Qing Dynasty,Yun Shouping repeatedly studied and boldly experimented with the art of boneless flower and bird painting before it was restored and redeveloped, and in the late Qing Dynasty,Ju Chao and Ju Lian(also known as "Ju Brothers")further developed boneless flower and bird painting through the innovative use of the "crashing water and powder" method on the basis of Yun’s bonelessness. To date, boneless flower and bird painting has formed a complete system of techniques. This paper selects three boneless painters,Yun Shouping in the early Qing Dynasty,Ju Chao and Ju Lian in the late Qing Dynasty, and firstly compares the background of the development of boneless flower and bird painting in the Qing Dynasty, then discusses the factors and characteristics of the boneless flower and bird painting of Yun Shouping in the early Qing Dynasty,Ju Chao and Ju Lian in the late Qing Dynasty, and their influence on later generations. The aim is to explore the development direction and practical significance of the creation of boneless flower and bird paintings, and thus enrich the expression of modernity of boneless flower and bird paintings.
