Filler words are very common in interpretation practice, but when there are too many fillers, the quality of the interpretation will be seriously affected and the audience will not be able to concentrate on the interpretation, and the audience’s understanding of the interpretation will also be affected. This paper draws on previous research on filler words, clarifies the classification benchmarks of filler words, and then summarizes several cases of filler words used in the author’s interpretation practice through case studies, analyzing their causes and proposing corresponding solutions, taking the mock conference "Peng Huamao: The Psychology of Aging" as an example.Drawing on the classification of filler words by Zhang Wei,this paper classifies interpretation filler into three categories: supplement filler, amendment filler, and postponement filler. After analyzing each of the three types of filler words, the following reasons were identified: insufficient transliteration ability, insufficient self-monitoring,insufficient grammatical mastery, notes interpretation errors, slow terminology conversion, slow information processing, and slow information extraction. The proposed strategies for solving these problems are: improving the comprehensive language ability;strengthening self-monitoring;improving note taking;preparing for translation and strengthening training in repetition without notes.
