| The fluency of the target language is an important aspect in assessing the quality of the target language.And improper pauses are common in the process of interpreting,which significantly affect the fluency of the target language.This thesis is a case study based on a mock conference “How to Control Health Costs-Lessons from Abroad”.The author explores the causes of improper pauses and proposes coping strategies by referring to literature,transcribing the source language and the target language,and studying typical cases of improper pauses.This thesis first defines the phenomenon of improper pauses in consecutive interpreting,then classifies them into silent pauses and filled pauses.The causes of improper pauses fall to three aspects including listening comprehension,bilingual conversion and poor language habits of interpreters.Based on the three aspects,there are three targeted coping strategies involving improving listening skills,practicing bilingual conversion and strengthening interpretation skills.This thesis is hoped to help other interpreters to solve the problem of improper pauses. |
