Difficulties And Strategies In Translating Subtitles Of Suspense TV Drama

Foreign TV dramas have gained a growing popularity in China,which has led to a need for subtitle translation from English to Chinese of such videos.As a result,fansub groups develop rapidly in recent years and introduce foreign TV dramas to a larger Chinese audience.In the thesis,based on the English-Chinese subtitle translation of Trigger Point,the author discusses the difficulties and strategies in translating subtitles of suspense TV dramas.The thesis begins with an introduction to subtitles translation including its feature and constraints,which leads to three difficulties in translating subtitles of suspense TV drama.The author holds that translators should simplify translation to keep it clear and simple,and comes up with three strategies in translating subtitles of suspense TV drama,such as strategies concerning omission and mood expression.It is hoped that the thesis will somewhat support translators in translating TV drama subtitles with increased translation quality and efficiency,so to help the audience understand the beauty of the TV dramas.
