| In the era of the Covid-19,people are increasingly concerned about their mental health.Against this backdrop,Guomai Culture has published the Chinese translations of two popular books on psychology counseling,which have been welcomed by readers.Counselling for Toads presents the counseling process in the form of children’s story,while Maybe You Should Talk to Someone is an autobiographical account of the counseling process.This thesis is majorly backed by the framework of Medio-Translatology and 5W communication model.It is a case study that explores the translation and dissemination of the two psychological best-sellers,and tries to answer the following questions: How do the Chinese translations reproduce the professional chnaracteristics and writing features of the original texts? What factors have influenced the communication effect of the two psychological best-sellers,and how have these factors functioned? What insights can be drawn from the translation and communication of the two best-sellers for the import of similar psychological books?This thesis analyzes whether the Taiwan version and the mainland version of the two best-sellers have reproduced both the professional characteristics and writing features of the original texts.And then it continues to figure out the major factors that facilitate the circulation of the two books,trying to benefit future introduction of similar books.This study finds that publishers can prioritize selecting psychology books that are both professional and readable for the general public when introducing such books.Ideally,translators should be proficient in both the source and target languages and have relevant disciplinary backgrounds,in order to reproduce the professionalism and writing style of the original work as much as possible.Compared to revising existing Taiwanese traditional Chinese versions,re-inviting local translators to translate based on the actual situation the mainland can lead to better acceptance.Once the translations are finalized,proper design of the book titles and covers can better attract the attention of target readers.In terms of dissemination,cooperating with key opinion leaders in the psychology industry,promoting the books through both online and offline channels,and increasing interaction opportunities between readers and authors,translators,and editors can lead to better translation effects. |
