As an influential writer in the history of Chinese modern and contemporary literature,Ding Ling is a unique existence. In the great changes of history, revolution and reality,Ding Ling,as a woman,a writer and a revolutionary, persistently explores the survival strategy and development space of women. This thesis mainly selects the female-themed novels in Ding Ling’s works as the research object, and takes the feminist literary theory in The Second Sex by French writer Simone de Beauvoir as the lead to explore the connotation of female consciousness in Ding Ling’s works and the connection, difference and development between female consciousness in different stages.I mainly study Ding Ling’s works in three different stages from 1927 to 1949.Accordingly,the main part of this thesis is divided into three chapters.Chapter One,the first awakening of female consciousness. From the early stage,Ding Ling had a distinct and strong sense of femininity. In this period, the female images in Ding Ling’s works often show two major tendencies: split self-image and torn inner world. In this chapter,I take "body" as the starting point and returns to women themselves to explore the internal problems of women themselves.First of all,how did early women deal with their pain and how did they deal with death? Secondly,I make a comparative study with the May Fourth female writers and summarize the uniqueness of Ding Ling’s early female consciousness and its significance in literary history.Chapter two,the initial exploration of women’s way out in the space of "revolution".In the 1930 s,Ding Ling created a number of revolutionary literature works, trying to reveal how "revolution",as a new social space, expanded women’s living space and development space. In this chapter,I focus on exploring three questions.Firstly, from the ideological and practical level,it analyzes the expansion of the living space of intellectual women in the 1930 s and the limitations of women themselves. The second is to excavate the consciousness of her mother Manzhen’s revolutionary consciousness and reposition the important role of the novel Mother in Ding Ling’s creation process.Third, explore the difference and development between Ding Ling’s works in this period and her early works.Chapter three,"Growing Up in Combat" : How women grow up.Women in modern Chinese literature realized that Ding Ling in Yan ’an period was endowed with a kind of productive and practical character. This kind of character makes female consciousness have more solid and rich reality and social content. This chapter focuses on the different circumstances and fates of educated women and rural women in Yan ’an area, and explores the process of women transforming themselves in specific revolutionary practices through the two important female images,Lu Ping and Zhenzhen.By summarizing the way of "strengthening oneself" pointed out by Ding Ling for women,it reveals that women should actively "participate" in the reform of society, change themselves at the same time, and realize the female self. |
