| Consecutive interpretation of slide lectures has been increasingly popular in workplaces.Visual aids provided by slides are supposed to be beneficial to the interpreters and reduce their workloads.Nevertheless,the author’s performance at the mock conference suggests that the slides are more likely to be distractions than aids for interpreters.Based on the mock conference about urbanization and sustainable development,the thesis makes classification and analysis of the challenges and problems of EnglishChinese interpretation related to the interference of slides from the perspective of Gile’s Effort Model.The thesis also offers some coping strategies to minimize the interference from slides.The thesis discusses how slides texts and graphs affect interpreter’s output,with the focus on three subjects: slide contents,slide sequence and graph complexity.Based on thorough analyses of slide-related examples,the thesis concludes that a positive mindset,high resistance against pressure and proper energy allocation switching between notes and slides are essential to minimize the negative interference of the slides. |
