As the most well-known Taiwanese writer,Bai Xianyong’s literary creation and personal life experience coexist,and relevant discussions constantly proving the close connection between the two.Clothing can be regarded as a subtle clue connecting "objective world" and "literature" ——the writing path which converted actual clothing into textual costumes infiltrates the writer’s objective observation and subjective thinking.This article takes Bai Xianyong’s‘clothing writing’as the starting point,and comprehensively observes his literary and artistic practice,from the surface narrative to the inner meaning,to explore the cultural content and spiritual value carried by clothing,in order to open up a new interpretation space for the gradually saturated Bai Xianyong research.This thesis is divided into three parts: introduction,main body and conclusion.The introduction part introduces the background status,significance,value,difficulties and research methods of the selected topic,and defines the specific research scope and skeleton of the thesis.The main part is divided into three chapters.The first chapter focuses on the narrative function of clothing.Starting from Bai Xianyong’s perceptual cognition in his childhood,it discusses the prototype of his interest in clothing aesthetics,and the specific implementation and specific path of using clothing to shape people after the system has matured.Create connections between reality and text,form and content.The second chapter discusses Bai Xianyong’s expressions of gender dilemma in the character narrative by means of the intensification,inversion,exaggeration,distortion of the gender of clothing,showing a rebellion against the solidification of sexual identity,as well as the identity anxiety revealed by the writer himself under the unique body-clothing hierarchy.The third chapter expands the binary confrontation relationship shown in the clothing discipline in the second chapter to the civilized structure,and compares the gender relationship with the national relationship,along the path of "materialization-westernization-modernization",returning a specific history field,showing the battle between China and the West in the shaping of flesh,discussing the writer’s modern thinking and limitations.The conclusion part summarizes the views of the full text.
