| Since the 1950 s,scientists studying astronomy worldwide have been dedicated to exploring the mysteries of the Moon and the connection between the Moon and the Earth.The translation practice report is based on the first five chapters of Heat of the Moon: How a Close Encounter with Earth Changed Everything,which belongs to astronomical popular science text with many technical terms,and long and complicated sentences in the text.This book reveals how the CALM can answer questions about the origin of the Moon that have been left unresolved since the era of the Apollo lunar missions.This report is divided into five parts.The first part includes the background information,significance,and framework of the translation project.The second part presents the translation process,divided into pre-translation preparation,translating procedure,and quality control.In the third part,the translator introduces the theoretical framework,the review of the current situation of domestic and international research on translation norm theory,as well as Chesterman’s translation norm theory and strategies.In the fourth part,the translator makes the case analysis under the guidance of expectancy norms and professional norms,flexibly selects and applies translation strategies.Besides,the translator discusses and analyzes specific translation examples in translation practice projects to ensure the accuracy,fluency,and readability of science texts.The fifth part is the conclusion,in which the translator summarizes the gains and shortcomings in the translation process and proposes references for the future.Chesterman’s translation norm theory has a guiding effect on the translation of popular science texts.On the macro level,it influences the way translators make decisions.On the micro level,the employment of translation strategies helps translators deal with translation questions,to meet the reader’s expectations,convey the author’s intention and transmit the information of the original text. |
