Vocabulary is an important cornerstone of language learning.Without the support of vocabulary,it is impossible to acquire a new language.Therefore,no matter what stage,we should pay attention to vocabulary learning.Teaching materials are the main source for learners to master vocabulary,so it is essential to study vocabulary in teaching materials.In this paper,the advanced comprehensive Chinese textbook Road To Success is taken as the research object,and the quantitative and qualitative investigation and analysis are carried out from the number grade,recurrence,interpretation and style of new words,and the compilation of new words in the textbook is investigated.It is found that the number of new words in the advanced textbook of Road To Success is generally small,there are too many superclass words,the recurrence rate in the text and practice is low,the lack of parts-of-speech tagging,the inconsistent number of meanings,the use of difficult words for interpretation,and the lack of explanation and practice related to the style,and so on.The introduction first introduces the significance,current situation,theoretical basis,research object and research method of the research.The second part makes a detailed investigation of the quantity and grade of new words in the textbook.On this basis,it makes a comparison with the New Chinese Proficiency Test Syllabus and the Chinese proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education respectively.It is found that the number of new words in the textbook of The Road To Success(Advanced)is generally less and the vocabulary in the syllabus is less.Through the comparison,we hope to provide some reference for the further revision of the Road To Success series textbooks.The third part,starting from the recurrence of new words,investigates and analyzes the total recurrence rate,recurrence times and recurrence intervals of new words in textbooks,and investigates the recurrence of new words in texts and exercises respectively,finding that the recurrence rate of new words in texts and exercises needs to be improved.The fourth part starts from the situation of the definition of new words,investigates and analyzes the content and methods of the definition of new words in the textbook.Through the investigation,it is found that there are some problems in the definition of new words,such as the absence of part of speech tagging,the inconsistency of the number of meanings,the use of difficult words for the definition,the lack of word collocation and example sentences.The fifth part starts from the stylistic situation of new words,investigates the stylistic awareness of new words in the vocabulary list and language points,and classifies the new words in the textbook by referring to the Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th edition),Chinese Written Language Dictionary,Modern Chinese Spoken Language Dictionary,Modern Chinese Function Word Dictionary,and Expressions of Written Chinese.It is found that there are some problems in new words,such as the lack of stylistic annotation,the lack of stylistic annotation form,the lack of stylistic explanation and stylistic practice.The sixth part is based on the previous research,aiming at the problems existing in the quantity,grade,recurrence,interpretation and style of the new words in the advanced textbook of the Road To Success,this paper puts forward the corresponding suggestions for revision.In terms of the quantity and grade of new words,this paper puts forward some suggestions that we should increase the amount of new words in textbooks,adjust the content of texts to balance the amount of new words in single class and reduce the amount of superclass words according to the Grade Standard.In the aspect of recurrence,it is proposed to increase the recurrence rate of new words by adjusting the topic of the text and strengthening the correlation between the topics.In terms of interpretation,it is suggested to unify the standard of part of speech tagging,adopt learned or low-grade new words to interpret and add some words collocation and example sentences for new words.In terms of style,with the deepening of the learning level,this paper puts forward some suggestions on improving the proportion of written words,perfecting the stylistic annotation of new words as far as possible,and adding some stylistic knowledge explanation and practice in the textbook.Finally is the conclusion of this paper,a brief summary of the research situation,and pointed out the shortcomings of this study.
