With the continuous enhancement of China's national strength,the Chinese international education industry has flourished.More and more universities in China have opened Chinese international education majors.The number of Chinese students studying abroad and learning Chinese abroad is increasing.Under this trend,there are many kinds of scholars,and many scholars are committed to the development of Chinese textbooks.On the one hand,scientific textbooks are conducive to the development of Chinese international education.On the other hand,the advantages and disadvantages of existing textbooks are studied in order to enlighten new textbooks.In July 2018,I came to Durban of South Africa as a volunteer teacher for Chinese.It is understood that the current Chinese textbook used by the Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology is the "Road To Success" series,Because of the length of the text,I personally practiced “Road To Success·Lower Elementary”,so this article selects the vocabulary part of“Road To Success·Lower Elementary”,and through the teaching practice,investigates the teaching effect of the Confucius Institute after using this textbook,hoping to give suggestions of writing the vocabulary part of South African native Chinese textbooks.The main contents are as follows:The preface part mainly includes the background of the topic,Summary of related research,Research content,ideas and methods,key points and difficulties of the research.The first chapter is a statistical analysis of the current status of the Chinese textbooks in several major Confucius Institutes in South Africa.It shows the overall status of the current Chinese textbooks in South Africa,that is,South Africa has not yet developed a set of targeted local Chinese textbooks.The second chapter,the overall introduction of “ Road To Success · Lower Elementary”,including the Table Contents of the Textbooks,Table of Abbreviations,Introduction of Characters,Introduction of Unit Frames,Texts,New Words,Learn to Speak,Note on Language Points,Note on Chinese Phonetics,Learn Chinese Characters,Reading and Writing exercises and Comprehensive Exercises.The third chapter focuses on the detailed study of the vocabulary part of“Road To Success · Lower Elementary ”,including the amount of the vocabulary of the textbook,the distribution of the part of speech of the vocabulary,and the annotation of new words,and the distribution of the vocabulary on the “ New HSK Test Syllabus.”The fourth chapter,through the teaching practice,investigates the Chinese level of the students who use the textbook,mainly the students' mastery condition of thevocabulary,and the students' level to reach the HSK test and Chinese test paper scores,and analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the vocabulary part of the textbook.In the fifth chapter,for the problems in the textbook,I will put forward some thoughts and enlightenment on the vocabulary part of South African localized Chinese textbooks.
