The worship of birds of prey occupies an important place in the spiritual life of the Mongolian people who live by nomadic herding and fishing and hunting. This is inseparably related to the Mongolian living environment, the understanding of nature and the thinking of the ethnic group. The vast grasslands and lakes of the Mongolian plateau provide a good habitat for various birds of prey.In the primitive society, where the production level was not high, the ancestors regarded the birds as spiritual things and possessed divine power that human beings did not have,so people began to worship birds, and the custom of bird worship is still preserved today. This paper takes the owl legends of the Mongolian gathering area as the main object of study, and the owl legends of other ethnic groups as a comparative object, and seeks to interpret their culture based on the legend types and their structures. The paper consists of three parts: introduction, body, and conclusion. The introductory section first explains the reason for the selection of the topic, sorts out the status of research on searching and organizing at home and abroad, then indicates the value and significance of the text, and then lists the research methods used in the study. After the introduction, the main part is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, the theory of communication is applied to discuss the evolution of owl legends from ancient times to the present day in three aspects, such as the form of transmission, distribution, and the reasons for the formation of different texts. It is pointed out that owl legends have been transmitted mainly in the form of oral transmission, historical documents, folklore collection and transmission, and folk literature collection and transmission, and the texts transmitted among various ethnic groups and countries are collected,The reasons for the formation of heterogeneous texts are explored, and it is believed that they are related to factors such as the social and cultural psychology of local people, history and geographical conditions.Chapter 2,which focuses on the structural analysis of the owl legends circulating in Mongolian folklore, using typological and maternal approaches There are five basic types of legends, namely, the legend of the clan, the legend of the black witch who was shot and cursed by Habtuhasar, thelegend of the girl whose soul was transformed into an owl,the legend of the feod between the owl and the crow, and the legend explaining the characteristics of the crow. The mother themes of each type of legend are summarized,as the combination of man and god,man and ghost man and bird, etc. In the third chapter, using sociological and folklore approaches, the original from of the Mongolian owl legend is discussed from three aspects:belief in ghosts and spirits, belief in nature, and belief in ancestors, while the means of forbidden spell-like beliefs are explored, and finally the values of life, such as respecting the old, revering heroes, and punishing evil and promoting good, are analyzed. The conclusion section summarizes the content of the paper and suggests shortcomings and problems to be solved in the follow-up study.
