Study On Koan Diagram Of Zen In Southern Song Dynasty

Since the Northern Song Dynasty,the Yangqi School of Linji Zongzong prospered and became the dominant school in the Southern Song Dynasty,and the Southern Zen thought became the mainstream support of Zen.Linji Zong took reference to the master’s Koan as the method of enlightenment,which naturally promoted the development and evolution of Koan Zen in the Southern Song Dynasty,and the Koan map of Zen Buddhism also realized vigorous development in this context.This paper aims to comprehensively and systematically sort out the related issues of the Southern Song Dynasty Zen koan diagram.Starting from the definition of the concept of the koan diagram,this paper introduces the generation and historical origin of Zen painting and Zen koan diagram,as well as the particularity of the Zen koan diagram in Zen painting.This paper analyzes the reasons for the prosperity of the koan plan in the Southern Song Dynasty.The innovation of the content of the Koan plan in the Yangqi School of Linji Zong,the all-round strategy of promoting education,the close connection with the ruling class,the mutual correspondence between the literati and the officials,and the integration of the folk belief in the scattering of saints made the Koan plan of the Zen sect highly respected in the Southern Song Dynasty.At the same time,the image,style and form of the existing Southern Song Dynasty Zen koan map are analyzed in detail,and then the historical background,the characteristics of art types and other related issues are explained.According to their status,the subjects of drawing public case drawings are divided into literati lay painters,Zen monk painters,court professional painters and folk professional painters.The functions of drawing public case drawings of each creation subject are discussed respectively.Given the special social and cultural context of the Southern Song Dynasty,the protection of the ruling class,production and consumption and other relevant situations,different painting subjects had different production purposes and different painting functions.Therefore,we should not blindly regard the public case drawing as a simple portrayal of the painter’s transcendent spirit.To further reveal the deep meaning behind the works,trying to clarify the Southern Song Dynasty Zen koan map unique artistic appearance and religious connotation.
