Loneliness is an important psychological challenge faced by college students today, many college students lack support,self-regulation methods, and long-term loneliness experience is not conducive to individual physical and mental health,so it is necessary to provide convenient and effective psychological adjustment intervention programs for college students.Researchers have found that social support can effectively suppress loneliness and improve individual well-being.In addition, good emotional regulation can help individuals maintain positive emotions, and many studies have also shown that individuals’ emotional regulation strategies have important associations with loneliness. Therefore, based on the above findings, this study will examine how social support and emotional regulation affect the level of loneliness in college students. This study consists of three parts, using a questionnaire survey method, with 567 college students as participants, and administered the UCLA Loneliness Scale,Social Support Scale and Emotion Regulation Strategy Scale.Using statistical methods such as correlation analysis, the relationship between loneliness, social support and emotional regulation of college students was investigated. The results of the study are as follows:(1)The overall level of loneliness among college students is average. The loneliness score of only children was significantly lower than that of non-only children; The loneliness score of literature and history majors was significantly higher than that of medical majors. There were no significant differences in gender, place of domicile and whether or not a single-parent or reconstituted family was all present. The total score of social support for girls and equal scores in all dimensions were significantly higher than that of boys.Boys scored significantly higher scores on expression inhibition and cognitive reassessment than girls.(2)College students’ loneliness was significantly negatively correlated with social support and three dimensions; There was a significant negative correlation with overall emotion regulation, among which loneliness was significantly negatively correlated with cognitive reassessment and positively correlated with expression inhibition.Social support was significantly negatively correlated with expression inhibition.(3)expression inhibition has a partial mediating effect between social support and loneliness.(4)Online group activities can effectively improve the loneliness level of college students through the intervention of social support level and emotional regulation strategies.
