Translation Of Figures Of Speech In Documentary Literature

The translation practice report is based on the translation of the documentary literature West With Giraffes by the American writer Linda Rutledge.This novel is an expressive text in which the author uses many figures of speech to tell the story,making it more vivid and appealing.Therefore,in order to arouse readers‘ interest,it is important to translate the figures of speech in this gripping novel appropriately.In this translation practice report,the translator analyses the lexical figures of speech and phonetic figures of speech.Syntactical figures of speech won‘t be discussed in this report due to the limited number of examples.This report analyses transferred epithet,hyperbole and simile in lexical figures of speech and alliteration,rhyme and onomatopoeia in phonetic figures of speech.To translate these figures of speech,free translation is mainly used.Besides,according to different situations,translating techniques such as additional translation,semantic extension and transformation are also used in this report,which can realise rhetorical effect,literary aesthetics and enrich readers‘ aesthetic experience.By analysing the translation of figures of speech in this paper,the understanding of rhetoric will be deepened and the translation methods of figures of speech will be better understood.This practice report will also provide reference and guidance for other translation learners.
