A Report On The Translation Of Zoroastrians:Their Religious Beliefs And Practices(Chapters 1-3) Based On Hermeneutic Translation Theory

Since the Belt and Road Initiative was launched,people-to-people exchanges and cooperation have been expanding.Zoroastrianism was evolved and introduced to China via the Silk Road,which brought a significant influence on Chinese cultural practices.The translation of this report is selected from chapter one to chapter three of Zoroastrians: Their Religious Beliefs and Practices,a book written by Professor Mary Boyce.This book is not only a summary of her previously published works,but also a compendium of the development and role of Zoroastrianism in different periods.It is hoped that the translation of this book will help domestic researchers to uncover the interaction between Zoroastrianism and the national cultures of the countries along the Silk Road,and promote the exchange and mutual appreciation of Eastern and Western civilizations.This report adopts the method of case study based on the framework of George Steiner’s hermeneutic translation theory,and analyzes the translation practice text through four steps of trust,aggression,incorporation and compensation.For historical texts,footnotes and in-text notes should be used to supplement historical information in addition to using methods such as reorganization,addition,paraphrasing and linear translation.It is hoped that this report can provide some reference for the translation of the historical texts.
