Poetry is the literary form that is closest to the language of film,because the imagination and emotions possessed by poets are direct and real.Similar to poetry,the language of film can be used to create a visual and auditory sensory experience through visualization and sound effects.The Czech-born filmmaker Jan Svankmajer shares the same thinking about the art of cinema.He inherited Tarkovsky’s poeticism and used the power of imagination to create films that offer aesthetic experiences that can only be found in poetry.As he believes that what is important is not any aesthetic feeling,but to obtain a form of internal imagination that is still undefined.In Svankmajer’s creative process,the influence of surrealism and stylization determined the visual style of his films,and tactile experiments became a source of his imagination.He found his own artistic value through imagination and association.As aestheticism ignores the poetic potential of materials used in films,Svankmajer rejected the traditional aesthetic sense of visual beauty and instead focused on the materiality of objects and tactile exploration to stimulate the viewer’s perception.The aesthetic experience formed through association and analogy became his film ideology and artistic proposition,leading the films to exhibit a unique aesthetic style that is melancholic,even eerie,yet still conveying poetry.In conclusion,the poetic creation in Svankmajer’s films is achieved by using symbols or images generated by analogy to establish new relationships between different phenomena,thereby evoking the essence of poetic associations.This text can be divided into four parts.In the introduction,the current research status of Svankmajer’s films by scholars from home and abroad,as well as his personal creative ideas,were reviewed.It indicates that the concept of "poetry" is essential for studying Svankmajer’s films,but there are varying degrees of research gaps internationally and domestically.Based on this,the author further reviews the relevant research on "poetry" in the introduction,clarifies the significance,key points,and methods of the research topic.Chapter One analyzes the creative background of Svankmajer and the poetic connotation in his imagery.In Chapter Two,the relationship between tactile experiences and poetry is discussed through Svankmajer’s tactile experiments and mediums.Chapter Three explores the poetic construction of Svankmajer’s films from the perspective of narrative subject and narration method.The conclusion summarizes the "poetry" element in Svankmajer’s films.
