A Report On Translation Of ICT News From ITU Under Text Analysis Model

With the progress of the times and the development of science and technology,strengthening Information and Communication Technology(ICT)is a must for China to be a further economic and social power.It’s known to us all that every aspect of national construction is inseparable from ICT.People,as the main force and beneficiary of building the country,need to fully understand the technology.In actual translation outputs here in China,however,there is still a lack of translation practice and research on science and technology news.And in view of the fact that the study encompasses a wide range and complex contents,it is not easy to find out a popularly acceptable theory or to formulate another systematic and reliable theory,and as a result,we are comparatively in short of the theoretical guidance for the translation of science and technology news.Nord’s “Text Analysis Model” focuses on analyzing the source text and emphasizes the purpose of translation,and the International Telecommunication Union(ITU)launches an ICT news column with a clear goal setting,which coincides with the concept of “Text Analysis Model”.The translation practice in this report is exactly performed under the guidance of “Text Analysis Model”,in which the sender’s intention can be achieved and the text can be translated properly to the target readers.Based on the “Text Analysis Model”,we explore the translation problems arising in this text of technology news from two aspects: translation of intra-textual factors and translation of extra-textual factors.The processing methods at the lexical level,sentence level and paragraph level are discussed in the first aspect,and the methods to realize text sender’s intention,audience’s expectation and text function are explored in the second aspect.According to the type of vocabulary,the network verification,the equifunctional translation and the literal translation are used respectively;at the sentence level,the methods of altering active sentences to passive sentences and changing the order of words are adopted;at the text level,the addition is mainly chosen.To realize the text sender’s intention,the foreignization strategy is primarily utilized,and translation methods such as transference,literal translation and literal translation with annotation are used;to fulfill the expectation of the receiver,the domestication strategy is more appropriate;for the realization of the text function,except for special cases in which the transference can be applied,the free translation is a more common translation method.Overall,this translation practice report applies the Text Analysis Model to the guidance of ICT text translation.We hope that this translation report will contribute to the promotion of ICT and be of value to the study of translation of science and technology news.
